Are you interested in advocating on behalf of survivors of domestic violence?  DVRP is currently hiring bilingual advocates!

Bilingual Advocates (BA) work with limited English proficient survivors, providing peer support, court accompaniment, interpretation/translation and referrals to social and legal services. BAs must be fluent in at least one other language and may be required to be available on an on-call basis during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 10am-6pm).

All advocates must attend a 55 hour training prior to starting and commit to serving for 1 year.  Candidates who speak at least one of the following languages are highly preferred (but not required): Vietnamese, Mandarin, Indonesian, Bengali, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Sinhala

The Spring 2012 8-Day Advocates Program Training will be held on these dates (from 10am-5pm): March 31-April 1, April 14-15, April 21-22, April 28-29

The Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP) is seeking a volunteer to research counseling methods currently utilized in Asian/Pacific Islander communities; connect with therapists/counselors in Washington, DC who provide services in Asian languages; and assist with the development of survivor support groups.

Desired Skills: Background in counseling or psychology with strong research, organizational, and communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal).  The ideal person for this position is someone who is detail-oriented and has the ability to work independently. Current graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to apply.

DVRP is a nonprofit organization that works to address and end domestic violence in Asian/Pacific Islander communities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We believe in providing culturally appropriate tools, support, and resources for survivors to make their own life choices.

Note: This is an unpaid position.  Some of this work can be done remotely; however, the volunteer should be available for meetings with the Director of Programs and/or a Board Member.

Time Commitment: A time commitment of 5 hours per week is required.
