DVRP's Response to COVID-19
Dear DVRP Allies, Supporters & Friends,
We wanted to reach out during this confusing and scary time to address the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic and let you know how DVRP is approaching the situation, and how we plan to continue serving our clients and community in a safe, responsible and health-conscious way.
We want to let you know that above all we prioritize the safety of our clients and community, and as such: there WILL be continuous coverage of the hotline during work hours by our case managers.
As a reminder, our hotline (202-833-2233) is open Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM, and on Fridays from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Internally, we are prioritizing the health of our staff and our clients by limiting in-person, non-essential exposure, having our staff work remotely, and allowing space for mental and physical health to be a priority.
Externally, all our events, trainings and workshops have been postponed, and will be rescheduled as more information from our global health community is shared and explained.
We also, cannot claim to serve the Asian/Pacific Islander community without acknowledging that A/PI community members are experiencing stigma, violence and hate crimes as a result of xenophobia, racism and prolonged misinformation surrounding this pandemic. This is deeply saddening, and requires us to stand together stronger than ever as a community and remain safe, vigilant and kind to others.
If you or anyone you know has experienced a hate incident related to COVID-19, and do not feel comfortable contacting your local authorities, please reach out to DVRP staff so we can record & monitor these incidents and provide peer support and system navigation, as we have been doing for our clients.
Finally, PLEASE consider supporting DVRP and other Asian-American organizations that are working to keep their doors open to best serve the most vulnerable, marginalized and at-risk in our communities. A donation allows us to continue working with clients, especially those facing additional health risks at this time in addition to navigating trauma and abuse.
We want you all to know that we stand together in solidarity as an A/PI community, an Immigrant community, and a Global community of Survivors during this time and are here to support you. Please make space to take care of yourself mentally and physically and do not hesitate to reach out.
We listen. We support. We believe.
In Kindness, Health & Safety,
Krittika Ghosh
Executive Director
