Artist Highlight: Ellie La'goon

How do you see your art connecting with healing or justice?

ree

To be honest, I feel like the healing my art connects with is more on the experiential side. I aim to describe the circumstances prevailing (Covid/Capitalism/Racio-Economic Instability) from a “lives-in”perspective.

What inspires your art or guides your creative practice?

Not to be corny, but that little kid inside of me that’s always wanted to be an artist. An add-on to that would be everything that’s been lost to me and my loved ones since the pandemic started. Simply because I still can, I ought.

What kind of artistic collaborations are you open to?

I’m open to any kind, really. Of course, collaborating with artists on the bandstand is always welcome, but I’ve been thinking about mixing media lately too. Say for instance while someone is curating a DJ set live, I’m orchestrating on the drums, maybe another individual would be painting a sketch live based on what they hear/feel. A combined artistic experience has been bubbling up in my mind for some time.

How can people support, buy, or experience your work?

I’m still working on setting up some official channels for my art, BUT they could listen to some recent work I’ve done with Fictionals on their latest record: Ancestor. I have some songwriting, vocal & production credits there! Besides that, I’d say if you’re around the DC metro area, the easiest way to keep up with me is checking on my Instagram channel. I’m posting up to date info on shows and my art-in-progress all the time.

Best way for folks to reach out to you?

Through Instagram (@likethelagoon), I’m #chronicallyonline when I can help it lol.
