Artist Highlight: Veronique

How do you see your art connecting with healing or justice?

ree

I'm deeply moved by reproductive justice tenants – which is rooted in the recognition that Black, brown, queer and disabled people deserve to raise children if, when and how they want to in an environment that affirms their dignity. I especially feel connected to my sense of purpose when I can share art in value-aligned spaces that are about feeling our humanness deeply and in spaces where sharing art can help drum up activity toward a revolutionary politic, demanding that our dignified humanity be recognized.

What inspires your art or guides your creative practice?

My music and poetry, exploring themes of growth, lack thereof, lightheartedness and hopelessness, is a way that I keep myself tethered to my own sense of dignity, allowing myself to remain connected to my humanity, even in a world that aims to take that from me and from those with fewer privileges than I do.
