Artist Highlight: saffy

How do you see your art connecting with healing or justice?

My art explores my experiences on the margins, seeing what others may not even notice. I write to liberate myself from oppressive brainwashing, transmuting colonial propaganda into indigenous grounding. I don’t know if we will see true justice under a fascist empire, but I know by healing myself and my people we can alleviate the harm we endure.

What inspires your art or guides your creative practice?

I am guided by the trees, the water, the soil, the fire, the wind. Nature is my muse and my heart. I create so that the seeds I sow will be watered and take root and provide fruit to nourish whoever resonates with the work.

What kind of artistic collaborations are you open to?

I would love to sing with other people and lead a jazz band! I love the improvisational nature of jazz and the feelings of melancholy it exudes.
